JOB PURPOSE:
As part of the Conference Team, you will play an integral role in ensuring our centre runs smoothly, our guests feel a genuine welcome and a can-do attitude from all our team members.
Working with the Conference & Events Team you will work to create great memories for all our guests. Adopting the servant-hearted culture will make each of our guests feel special and you will have the support of your Meeting & Events Manager

As the Conference Porter, you will assist in the running of the entire meeting and events department, taking responsibility to ensure the very highest level of service are consistently delivered. You will have responsibility for ensuring our conference organisers, have the greatest possible experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a visible presence and available point of contact for conference organisers and delegates, endeavouring to resolve queries, complaints and issues promptly and seek to provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Set out chairs and other requirements ready for the incoming conference, with meeting room signage as required.
- Ensure AV equipment is in full working order for the incoming conference and ensure any issues are rectified with external support as required.
- Explain the use of AV/PA equipment to conference organisers (or specific contact) on arrival and attend to any difficulties experienced during stay.
- Ensure WIFI service is in full working order for the incoming conference and ensure any issues are rectified with external support as required.
- Service meeting rooms as required daily – e.g. water, mints, paper/pens.
- Resolve any minor maintenance related faults discovered, alternatively record action required by the maintenance team or alert “on call” maintenance support if urgent.
- Ensure overall functionality (e.g. lighting), maintenance and health & safety of conference rooms is being addressed, reporting any issues as required
- Clearing and cleaning conference rooms after conference have left.
- Ensure energy is conserved where practicable, lights are switched off when rooms are not in use, windows and doors are closed to exclude draughts, and heating controls, thermostats and radiators are set to optimal levels for comfort and energy efficiency.
- On occasion, take responsibility for the opening up and closing down procedures, ensuring the general security and safety of the centre.
- Regularly “walk the centre” ensuring high standards of cleanliness and tidiness are maintained and that heating, and lighting is set at appropriate levels.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications, education and training:
Essential
No formal qualifications are required but a good standard of numeracy and literacy
Desirable
First Aid certificate
Basic knowledge of health and safety
Experience and knowledge:
Essential
Previous experience working in hospitality or other customer facing role.
Basic computer knowledge, including WiFi connectivity
Desirable
Understanding of setting up and maintaining audio-visual equipment
Working to a schedule or regular task list
Skills, personal attributes and behaviours:
- Able to quickly establish rapport with guests from diverse cultural backgrounds and age ranges.

Other:
Able to work flexible work patterns, including bank and public holidays, weekends and evening shifts as required according to a rota.
Whilst holding a Christian faith is not a pre-requisite, an understanding of and support for the Christian ethos and aims of the organisation and a willingness to work in that environment is an essential requirement for the role.
Knowledge of the Christian and/or not for profit/charity/education conference market is beneficial.
