A space to train, equip and deploy

June 2023

‘It’s a joy to be in these peaceful, spirit-filled surroundings,’ says David Chambers, UK pastor for Christ For All Nations. CfaN is a Christian organisation dedicated to preaching the gospel. In early June, they had their Fire Camp at High Leigh which involved training people in the skills for evangelism. CfaN found that High Leigh gave them a space to train, equip and deploy their students. We spoke with David about their retreat and why it’s important to get away.

Tell us about your retreat

People from across the United Kingdom have gathered here at High Leigh to be equipped for evangelism. Some have travelled as far as the Hebrides, Ireland and Wales! We are doing teaching, practical training and impartation. At the end of the week, we will take a trip to North London to do outreach.

Why is it important to get away?

Jesus did incredible ministry, but he also took time to retreat, to be with his father and seek Him in solitude. We've brought a school of 71 students away from their normal lives so that they can be trained, equipped and deployed. It's a joy to leave behind the busyness of life and gather together in a beautiful house and peaceful atmosphere. There’s a sense of openness here; we have full freedom to really explore the things of God.

What is special about High Leigh?

Before we came away, I told my mother we were going to High Leigh. She said, ‘For many years your grandfather came to High Leigh for men's retreats.’ There is obviously a heritage here; decades and decades of people coming to seek the face of God. You can feel that whilst you are here. On a practical note, the facilities at High Leigh are wonderful.
