Choosing a speaker for your Christian event

September 2023

Are you working through the planning stages of an upcoming event and are ready to find your speakers? This is an important decision as those who deliver the talks can greatly impact your attendees. So, here are 4 things to consider when choosing a speaker for your Christian event.

1. Work with your theme

Find the right person who knows and addresses the topics you really want to explore. It will help if they have relatable life experiences. They should express your theme clearly and concisely whilst engaging the audience.

2. Find the right person for your audience

Who would they want to hear, and who would connect with them best? It doesn’t need to be someone famous, just someone with an interesting story to tell!

If you have a range of speakers presenting, try to keep the lineup diverse – representing a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Make sure you’ve heard them speak before and they can engage with the audience and complement your conference theme.

3. Work within your budget

How much can you afford for a speaker – would you offer a speaker’s fee, or offer free accommodation/travel expenses covered? Make sure you honour a speaker’s time and service by supporting them somehow.

4. Communicate with them clearly

Book them well in advance of the event. Be clear on what you want from them whilst being sure that they have all the info and support they need from you. Make sure they are updated on any changes to the schedule or expectations of them so they are fully aware of all that's happening.

Choosing the right speaker can be an overwhelming step in organising an event but with the help of your friends and colleagues (and some inspiration from our articles), it can be a fun experience which ties your conference together! Now it's time to write content for your talks.

Our large conference centres host a full range of events for Christian groups, from exclusive-use residential conferences for 400 delegates, to team meetings, church weekends away, youth group breaks, exhibitions and training events.
