What to expect on a Christian retreat

January 2024

Whether you are an event organiser or you have a Christian conference coming up, it's important to know what to expect or plan for. A retreat will usually involve worship, teaching sessions, group activities such as games and discussions, and fellowship over food and coffee. We’ve broken up a typical conference into 4 sections to help you understand exactly what to expect during a Christian retreat.

Worship

A Christian conference will always have some type of worship. Whether it’s a single leader with an acoustic guitar or an entire band with staging and lighting, you can expect there to be worship sessions.

At our venues, you’ll be fully equipped with A/V equipment such as sound desks, cables, mics, stands, DI boxes and more. This is included in our all-inclusive price; there are no charges for A/V hire.

Teaching sessions

Teaching is the core of most Christian retreats. Usually, a theme will be chosen and will be touched on in most talks and seminars. Guest speakers are often brought in to share their unique stories and perspectives on this theme.

As an organiser, you may be tasked with writing talks or choosing speakers. We’ve written some helpful guides on these topics which we hope you find helpful.

Group Activities

At any religious getaway, you can expect some engaging activities, whether it’s a team-building game, 5-aside football match, or group walk. These bonding experiences help to create lifelong memories, good friendships and can hit home the message of the conference theme.

At our venues, we are fully equipped with the space and equipment you need for your group games and activities. With over 140 acres combined of lawns, parkland and woodland, our centres are more than large enough for your retreat.

Fellowship over food

What is a conference without good food? You can expect lots of meals with your friends and family during a Christian retreat, which is often one of the most loved parts! Fellowship is an important part of your getaway and will be a time for your group to get to know each other better.
