Highgate House is full of history, but it certainly is not standing still. We continue to reinvest back into our centres so they can serve the Church well for years to come.
Over recent months, several improvements have been taking shape around Highgate House, from refreshed flooring and new outdoor spaces to sustainability projects that support the grounds and local wildlife.
Comfort is also a key part of the guest experience, which is why we are working on installing air conditioning units in 10 bedrooms on the first floor of Upper Stable Courtyard.
These units will help guests stay comfortable throughout the year, providing cooling during warmer summer months and extra warmth when needed in winter. It is another investment designed to make residential stays at Highgate House even more comfortable.

A bedroom in the Upper Stable Courtyard.
Pine has been given a beautiful refresh after a hidden feature was uncovered beneath the carpet.
The carpet has now been removed and the wooden floor underneath has been restored, bringing new warmth and character to the room. It is a simple change, but one that makes a real difference to the feel of the space, helping Pine remain a welcoming and practical setting for groups during their stay.

Before.

After.
Guests heading to the beginning of the nature walk will now spot a new handmade bug hotel, created by Rhys, our Guest Services Host at Highgate House.
Built using reclaimed materials, this rustic little retreat has been designed to offer a safe home for pollinators and other beneficial insects. It is another meaningful step in our ongoing work to care for the grounds, support biodiversity, and encourage guests to enjoy the natural beauty around Highgate House.

We are also excited to unveil a new paved fire pit area, located on the other side of the stretch tent.
The area includes new trellis work and a handmade fire pit, once again created by Rhys. This will give guests another inviting place to gather outdoors, whether for relaxed conversations, evening fellowship, or simply enjoying the peaceful countryside setting.
With the stretch tent already providing a covered space to pause and take in the views, the new fire pit area will add even more warmth and atmosphere to this part of the venue.

As part of our continued focus on sustainability, Highgate House has also introduced a new hot composting initiative.
A new composter box is ready to turn everyday food waste, such as coffee grounds, eggshells and fruit peel, into nutrient-rich compost for planting around the venue. It is a practical way to reduce waste while helping the gardens and outdoor areas flourish.
Over time, this initiative will support the planting across Highgate House and contribute to the ongoing care of the site.

Each of these updates may look different, but they all share the same purpose: helping Highgate House serve guests well while caring for the character and setting of the venue.
We look forward to welcoming guests to enjoy these new additions in person soon.
