Big or small, things are always happening at our Derbyshire venue. From brand new hot snacks to a bit of history ringing out across the centre, it’s time to check in and see what’s been going on at The Hayes.
The Olive Tree officially opens
Over the last few months, we’ve been preparing something we know will be popular with you evening snackers! The Olive Tree, a brand-new addition to the lounge area at The Hayes, will officially be open from the 3rd of July.
This long-awaited snack bar will serve delicious hot snacks from 9pm, giving guests that bit of extra flexibility in the evenings.
New bedroom showers
Over the past few years, we’ve been refurbishing some of the main house bedrooms. As part of that, brand-new electric showers have been fitted in rooms 61 - 65. These rooms have served guests for over 100 years, and now after having a full top-to-bottom refurbishment, we hope will serve you for years to come!
Race to the sun!
At the beginning of June, Louis, gardener at The Hayes, planted 45 sunflowers outside Main Conference Hall. Staff at Christian Conference Trust have each sponsored a sunflower and a race is underway to see who’s flower is tallest by the 25th of September. The winner will receive a gift card and all remaining proceeds will go to Treetops Hospice in Derby and The Salvation Army Toy Appeal.

The bell that rang out
While carrying out investigations on the Main House roof, our maintenance team were able to get close enough to inspect The Hayes’ bell. Cast by John Taylor & Co, a historic bell foundry based in Loughborough, the bell has stood the test of time. The maintenance team decided to give it a push and after more than 32 years of silence, it rung out across the centre again.
