Toybox project update

December 2015

Toybox project update

Though you may not realise it, every sip of coffee you enjoy at a CCT venue is helping to make the world a better place. Through our partnership with Kingdom Coffee, we ensure that all of the brews we offer at our venues come from ethically sourced suppliers.

What’s more a proportion of the cost of every cup of coffee served in our venues is donated directly to Toybox, a Christian charity dedicated to improving the lives of street children around the world. The last donation that we made to Toybox went towards their incredibly important project in Guatemala City. So if you’ve enjoyed a cup of coffee at a CCT venue recently, here’s what your money has been used for.

Guatemala

Though Guatemala is one of the most beautiful and historic countries in Central America, its people have suffered for generations due to civil war, violence and poverty. As a result, there are currently an estimated 700,000 unregistered children in the country, many of whom live in extreme poverty in Guatemala’s capital.

Street Outreach

To help these children improve their lives, Toybox operates a number of projects in Guatemala City, one of which is Street Outreach.

During Street Outreach visits, the Toybox team provide children with essentials like food, clothing and medical treatment. Many children who live on the streets of Guatemala City lack basic essentials and have few positive interactions with adults and authorities.

On a recent visit to the streets of Guatemala City, the team helped a group of children to wash and cut their hair. Though a simple act, helping the children in this way was a great experience for the team and showed the children kindness, respect and empathy that they weren’t used to. It also showed the children that there were people out there who really cared about them and wanted to help them.

How CCT makes a difference

The Street Outreach work that the Toybox team carry out is an important first step in getting these children the help and support that they need. In the last six months, the money that CCT has provided has helped Toybox to visit outreach focal points 87 times and the Early Encounter work that they have carried out has directly benefited more than 1,000 vulnerable children.

With our continued support, Toybox will be able to improve the lives of even more orphans and street children in Guatemala and around the world and give them more hope for the future.
