A brief overview of The Hayes & the need for change:
The Hayes has bedroom accommodation for over 400 guests and a wide variety of meeting room and conferencing facilities for over-night guests and day visitors. It’s a busy place with multiple groups of all sizes coming and enjoying the facilities on offer throughout the year.
The main building is a Victorian country house with buildings added at different times over the decades and with various architectural styling, some pleasing, some not so; the result has become rather piecemeal.
Some of the main principles and motivation behind the proposals are as follows:
- There is no increase to the number of bedrooms, we would like to carry on doing what we’re doing just better, with well-suited accommodation to meet the needs of our guests
- To improve the experience for guests in terms of visual appeal, comfort and enjoyment, ensuring the accommodation meets and exceeds expectations
- To bring cohesion to the whole site both in the way guests, staff and visitors move from building to building and in the appearance and visual appeal of the landscaped areas and buildings themselves
- To resolve some of the operational issues such as deliveries, improved staff facilities and access routes and accessibility around the site and buildings
- To provide much-needed circulation and break out space both internally and externally, including making much better use of the outdoor areas
- To reinstate the historic architecture of the original buildings
- To improve the environmental credentials of the site, making use of renewable energy sources, reducing the need for energy through up to date building technology
- To continue to provide ever-improving quality of service to guests and enjoyable work place for staff teams
